Topic: (re)Newly Steam User

So, I'm going back to school and have finally found the buck to buy a decent laptop with a HD 5200u graphics card.
Good enough to play old games I love (i.e. Half life 2).
Actually, any game I've installed from about 2008 back works wonderfully, I'm about to load Skyrim for shits and gigs just to see how far I can go before games become unplayable.
I used to have a Steam account back when Half Life 2 came out and, quite honestly, haven't given a fuck since...
But, I've been fucking about the Steam client for a little while now and wondering, "Hey, what games would be awesome to play on a 2.2 GHz intel i5 processor and 5200u graphics card!?"

So. POSers, have the fuck at it!

Any game new or old, recommend it.

Also, let's talk about pc gaming while we're at it.

EDIT: It's a duel core processor, not quad (sighs in sadness).

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

Since its a dual core and not a quad, the sighs are warranted. A quad can still hold up if you have a decent graphics card. But if you are trying to run Half Life 2, it will run fine. If you are trying to run the Witcher 3, LOL good luck.

Steam in the best thing to happen to gaming since piracy. And I mean that in a good way, the cost of games have come down on PC through Steam to where it is much more approachable, and TBH Steam's service is comparable to an Xbox Live membership or PS Plus membership. Finally the PC market is coming back around to where companies listen to us instead on console, console, console.

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

Counter strike 1.6 still has a following last time I played about a year ago. I tend to go on there and get really into it for a couple of weeks and then stop. Otherwise that. I've been trying to get Starcraft 2 running but no computer I've had since it came out can run it. Just convinced my girl to purchase a computer and we got a pretty powerful computer. Haven't set it up yet though. Still been in the box for a month. So I'll probably play Starcraft.

I never really played single player games back then. But now that I play games again I pretty much only play them. I'd go with half life.

I really don't like where shooters have gone. It's all mindless, no tactical, no team based, run and gun do your own thing adhd bullshit. I miss counter strike and the original socom. I know I'm jumping consoles vs pc but just wanted to put that out.

I bet a really cool survival horror game would be lots of fun for the PC

Also I really wish I could remember my old steam account and pass because that shit was from like 99 or 2000.

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

I just downloaded steam for the first time yesterday. Trying to DL arkham but it says 3 days to DL! Is steam always this slow?

i heard they (who made the game, not steam) removed arkham temporarily because it was a buggy mess for AMD users on PC. Im surprised it even let you purchase it at all, but you can either wait until they get it going again, or take advantage of Steams refund policy and get your money back until its fixed.

i would go on the steam forums and look into it more.

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

I didnt actually buy it. I got a new GPU and received the game as a free steam download. Finally snapped and deleted bf4 lol
Ive done everything theyve posted in the forums. Still slow as fuck

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

Im still surprised they offered the game thru Steam at all, as far as what Bacon is describing. Id rather have it unavailable than have fans/customers sitting on a load screen for days on end. This isnt the late 90's, is it?

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

Well after letting it run all night, it still said two days left to DL, fuck that shit. I deleted steam and Arkham and am now gameless lol looks like a reinstallation of bf4, with all the assholes bitching about how overpowered the weapons are, after the spring patch lol

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

I wouldnt blow off Steam. I havent even tried Batman yet on any system, but Steam is an essential PC gaming tool.

I know.
I was looking for recommendations.
What games would YOU buy with this restrictive of hardware.

Which is every PC game made by anyone except EA basically. If you arent pirating PC games, you pretty much have to have Steam. Plus they have all kind of indie games at fair prices

@ addicted
you may be able to play Skyrim, but if not Oblivion will run on that. Deus Ex, maybe

I'm talking Deus Ex from 2000 haha.
Not Human Revolution.
I'm definitely going to play through Oblivion and Morrowind again.
Was slightly optimistic about Skyrim, but you know, we'll see.
I've been playing TF2 a bit on here, and honestly, I'm getting good game speeds at low-mid settings.

I'm thinking about downloading some old school stuff, but now that I'm not 10 in 2000 anymore, Im having terrible recall of great games other than half life, doom, serious sam, elder scrolls, deus ex, quake, unreal, etc.

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

Ff7 was out in uhmmm 1997 i think, and even my phone can run that bad boy lol.

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

I love Steam. And until recently I was running on some old thrown together PC.  Look for the smaller games.  I'm not sure of requirements, but you could probably run Braid and Fez. Faster Than Light is fun. If you like stupid restaurant sims, Cook, Serve, Delicious is a good time.  Prison Architect should run.  And you might be able to get away with Civ V on all of the lowest settings, but it'll take a little bit to process turns. I'm MisterKait on there if you start using it again.

According to recommended system requirements for civ 5, i should be able to play it perfectly.
Definitely not the highest ssettings. Do you have civ 5?

@howling idk if i can buy ff games on steam lol

^ fucked if i know am still not sure of what it is....but i do KNOW ff7 is a classic lol

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

Really? C'mon Howling. If you want to game on a PC and not pirate, you must have Steam. Its as close to XboxLive or PSPlus+ as you can get on a PC

As far as FF, that is up to the developers, not Steam. Steam will put out anything by anyone, its about if SquareEnix wants to play ball.

And my Zenfone2 is like a little laptop, even the biggest games are smooth like butter

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

Oblivion runs fine, although I can't get the damn thing to run on high settings (the screen's hud is displayed but the background is an off black).
Blows. But it runs perfectly mid settings.
Great frame rate regardless of how many npc's are on the screen.

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

^seeee that's where it falls down for me..no pc, haven't had one for now i think about it 8 or 9 years.
Such a dinosaur me lol

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

I haven't played Civ V in a few months, but I do own it and love it.  I haven't installed it on my new rig yet because I'm taking Calc for my next couple semesters and don't need to worry about falling into the Civ rabbit hole.

Re: (re)Newly Steam User

I took advantage of a Greenman Games offer for Elder Scrolls Online for 12 bucks, you buy it from them, they give you the key and you go download it from the source. Havent played it yet though because Ive been playing the Witcher still. I beat it once, but I wanted to do some things differently so Im almost through beating it again
