GAMER CORNER IS....
A place to  discuss your PC set-up or the console you prefer, discuss upcoming games you're looking forwards too, or games you are currently playing. Also I'd like it if we ask each other for help if your stuck on a game maybe someone else has played it can help. I figured I would centralize all the gaming topics into one Gamer Corner.

To start off, I'm playing Mad Max and thoroughly enjoying the shit out of it!

UPDATE: I added a little graphic.

Re: GAMER CORNER

Really? I heard Mad Max the game was kinda meh. Like Borderlands, but... not.

Re: GAMER CORNER

Meh maybe, but fun. I bought it for $20 on G2A. It's just a good segway for Fallout 4, even though I'll probably complete all the content within a week or two.

this is what im currently running. looking to upgrade my graphics card this winter. also need a liquid cooler as games can shoot my cpu temps to almost 90c.

i also am an avid nintendo fan. owning multiple current and past console/handhelds. currently playing super mario maker, splatoon, and just got dying light and rocket league. Pretty much PC/Nintendo Master Race.

we likes it wicked, we keeps it wicked.

Re: GAMER CORNER

Im glad you made this thread so I dont have to make one... I've never been a PC gamer, but been glued to the consoles pretty much since birth. It used to be just too expensive, but Im wondering with tech getting better and better if it would be a viable option now. Whats like, the essential things you need to have a proper set up? Not top of the line or anything but good enough to satisfy the basic requirements? I still just have my 360 lol.

Re: GAMER CORNER

My Build:
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990fx
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor, 4000 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB
HHD: 1x WD Green 1TB, 1x WD Red 4TB, 1x Sandisk SSD 60GB Boot Drive [for quick start-up and caching]
GPU: Sapphire 280X Toxic [Used to crossfire with 2 of these, got to hot]
Drive: LG Bluray [waste of money without software]
Cooling: Cooler Master V8 DTS
Case: Corsair 760T Black with clear side
Theme: Black parts with Red Lighting all hidden and sound activated

Personally I have a AMD build. AMD compared to Intel is on the cheaper side and still has lots of quality. Hope it's a start for you to research gnat?

All I know is if you can piece things together, building your own PC is not that hard, and can save you 25% or more, or else can build you a PC 25% better or more for the same money.

If you are buying a prebuilt computer and plan on gaming with it, the GFX card and what DX version it can run are of the utmost importance right now. RAM and processor are secondary to this.

Is anyone going VR when it becomes available? Which one are you getting?

for 1500, absolutely. You can go ASUS or Alienware for a prebuilt, or do it yourself and get it done better. I re-use my power supply, my case, my RAM if I can. Although when I build a new one for myself its gotta be from scratch, Ive been using a Gateway quad-core for about a decade with ddr2 memory and its ok with my GFX card being so good until recently, when Dying Light and such came out.

Re: GAMER CORNER

Do it, Gnat.  It's cheaper than buying a comparable prefab PC and you can get as much or as little as you want.  And even avoiding top of the line stuff, you'll still be able to play most modern games.  AMD is cheaper, but intel does beat it on most benchmarks even when you have similar processors.  That said, I have an AMD in my rig that's a few years old, but with some good ram, and a mid range graphics card, I can play pretty much every game out there right now.

Keep your eye on Newegg around the holidays.  Tons of great deals and if you're willing to remember to do it, tons of rebate offers.  The gf and I finished building/upgrading last year and probably got around $100 or more back in rebates.

Plus, switching to PC you open yourself up to  the enormous and rapidly growing world of indie games.  There is some weird and awesome stuff out there, and thanks to humble bundle and Steam's twice yearly blow out sales, and gog, you can get them on the cheap.

He's right, newer AMD chip's performance aren't that below Intel, if not even and at a huge price cut. Newegg.com during the holidays is the way to go. My initial build would have costed $3000 US, but with sells at Xmas, I spent $1200 US on Newegg. Don't buy prebuilt, cuz you can learn as you go on youtube[https://www.youtube.com/user/CareyHolzman] on how to build a PC. It's so easy and you should look at theme ideas for your box if you want to give it a little personality.[that's optional]

wait until someone posts their liquid cooled rig. Im sure someone here has one.

or, even better, someone who is doing the full mineral oil submersion method. Sounds too much hassle for me, but I dont generate crazy heat with my rig

Like I said, watch a couple 'Casey Holzman' videos on Youtube. His build videos are thorough and very educational. That's how I learned years back. Just type his name and his channel will pop up. Anyways, watch a couple of his videos, pay attention to the parts used, and around X-mas buy those parts or cheaper versions [READ CUSTOMER REVIEWS FOR THE PARTS BEFORE PURCHASING!!!!!!] Then when you start your build follow along with one of his similar build videos  AMD OR INTEL. Trust me, it's Hella easy!!!!

The hardest part is figuring out what to buy.  For assembly you need a phillips head screwdriver and opposable thumbs.  Don't even worry about liquid cooling unless you plan on overclocking anything.  I don't and have zero problems.  Most of the stuff that's out now, unless you're looking to really tax your system just don't need it.  The only reason I even got a new CPU fan was because mine was loud as fuck, not because it wasn't keeping my cpu cool.

Re: GAMER CORNER

all of these things look intimidating as hell. Kinda scared. I wanted to know if it's better/easier to build a desktop or a laptop. I, personally, prefer laptops because I like the mobility and I take it most places. For the most part, I know what size screen and harddrive I want, but I want it to be especially good for gaming since I'm switching.

Suggestions/opinions?

"Hey evil, why don't you eat my butt?"

Re: GAMER CORNER

You cant really do much to most laptops. At best you may be able to upgrade the ram and the hard drive but laptops are made to be replaced, not upgraded, Usually. ASUS makes some nice gaming laptops. Gaming on a laptop generally costs more than a desktop for identical specs. So if you are buying a laptop, want to run current games at high settings, the GFX card is the most important thing. Most laptops in the 300-500 range are all about the same. Most of what most people consider gaming laptops start at around $850, and $1250-$1500 is kinda common.

These guys, along with many others, build custom laptops to your specs. Costs as much as you want it to.

If I could afford a pc rig or an xbox one, I'd be stoked for fallout 4... However, seeing as I can't afford either right now, I'm extremely bitter towards fallout talk. Hahahah.
The game looks sweet though. Can't wait to play it.
Super geeked to play mgs5, battlefront, soma, and gears of war 4 though.

Re: GAMER CORNER

sooo... fallout 4 for PC, PS4, or Xboxone? Ive had the PS4 for about a year, and the Xbone for a couple months. So far I prefer the PS4, but I hear the mods will be available for xbone before they will be available for PS4, due to the ease of making mods for PC going to a Microsoft product like xbone being easier. The developers themselves said it will be mods on PC on launch day, xbone shortly thereafter, and PS4 "as soon as possible after that, but no hard timeline". As far as PC, my rig is pretty decent, but I can't run ultra gfx, and only high gfx on some games. I hve a 2gb gtx660, good card but its falling behind, and I only have a quad core processor, again falling behind, and 8 gb ram, not bad but falling behind. There are no more upgrades available on my like 10 year old motherboard, so until I get around to/can afford a new PC it is what it is. Im not above pirating the game, but I have no problem paying the money for a game that is actually worth it, and from a developer that doesn't fuck around like most others do.

I usually dont mod a game until I beat the vanilla version once, so I dunno. I do have a good friend who plays with me on Forza on the xbone, but I dont believe there will be any mulitplayer involved in Fallout, will there?

edit: found the PC specs for fallout

Fallout 4 PC system requirements

At least 8 GB RAM and 30 GB free hard drive space is required for all machines.

Minimum
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz/AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz or equivalent
GTX 550 Ti 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent
Recommended
Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent
GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent

Yikes. I basically have the minimum as far as pc goes.
