I remember exactly when Loaded (one of the original members of POS) presented one of these banners to me. Meanwhile, everyone else was snickering about the name. I didn't get it as a young teenage boy, but whatever, you know, the difference between "peg leg paddy & peg legged paddy" smile (I used to post a lot on POS, I'm sure I annoyed the fuck out of everybody haha). Loaded made sure to make me feel included in the going on's around POS at the time though.

I don't even know if some of these people are alive or what, but Loaded, MAD, bottlecap, Anaticula, aKa, (some gal from australia who was friends with MAD, I forget her username lol), Ick (if I forget anyone, I apologize lol), you guys literally made me feel welcomed at a time in my life where I didn't fit in nor belonged anywhere else. But here I did.

That recent thread Howling posted has me thinking about all this shit.

My introduction to the punk scene was at some local punk show at an indoor skatepark at the impressionable age of 12, but POS is the reason I stayed and continued to develop real world relationships with people all around my area and outside of it.
Honest.

Loaded ended up being a douche, but he was cool up until then. The Australian gal was Ebbtide. Catdog, of course. Bottlecap was/is a legend at PunkTorrents, I kept trying to get him over here as well. As the years have gone by, I dont know if he is active anywhere anymore.

Remember this? We all used a random name generator with a pirate theme for this. It was just before or just after the dead theme. Man, we used to do so much more shit... must be because it was before all the portable media, iphones and such...

Nah, not Ebbtide, but I totally loved that gal!
It was someone else... hmmm.

Bottlecap sent me a package of old t-shirts and cd's and patches.
MAD gave me a video editor and software.
Anaticula sent me the entire dragon ball manga series.

Still are.

I'm with you man. But honestly, we have been having this discussion - amongst admins and friends of the music scene since the 90's when Napster started all this as far as mainstream - the last few years. We were all noticing a decline in traffic; it wasnt one site canabilizing another, it was just the same traffic tapering off. We figured that over time, people grew out of posting on forums all the time for lolz and message board cred, people stopped uploading once youtube came out, (file sharing has been going on as long as the internet, it used to take a week to get one song, and that's not a walking uphill in the snow both ways story, that's really how it was)

Basically, the instant access to all things music, streaming, spotify, iheartradio, youtube, etc, its all taking away from a site like this. Punknews.org, and its ilk, all of it. They each take a post away, a view away, a torrent away. I mean, why download "illegal" music if you can stream legal music? Why go to a niche punk site like POS or PT or Kray for that matter, for discussion if you can "discuss" with thousands of other "punks" on punknews or its ilk?

The costs to make this site an app friendly site, even disregarding the torrents? Without writing it ourselves, our donations cant cover that. But its fucking golden. I bet Fat Mike rips me off reading this and makes a fucking punk music app. nah, he's busy making Fat Wreck mobile friendly.

Im not even that old, but "mobile friendly" makes me think of old school motel prostitutes. Mobile friendly, mate.

To answer the whys, the "why come here?"

I think reading through our posts shows enough. You come here for the group, for our common cause. Otherwise, you can youtube punk rock and fuck off for 10 days straight.

Maybe I will get 20,000 stickers or so made up and send them SASE to any member who wants them to stick up all over their hometown, thats guerilla marketing at its best.

Anyone under 30 even remember SASE?

You're thinking of Spanky (or Spankypuss depending on which name she was using at the time)
Kept in touch with her for a while but not spoke to her since the "lifeboat" site went down, lovely girl.
Also on the miss 'em list are Regicide and the sadly deceased Freewaybear, they were an awesome double act, always cracked me up when they were on.

I vote Sig number one too, The sigs kept getting smaller because Kev was obsessed with page loading times, he tried to keep the site running smoothly for anyone with a slow connection, which was understandable, but every time I did any graphic for him he'd tell me it was perfect but had to be smaller than 35kb, drove me fuckin' mad.

Here's my old one anyway

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z72/fercuw/guananew2.jpg

and (one of) the old Galley Slave sigs, for those of us who made Pirate the hard way

(I prefer my DKM sig though)

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

Its probably Spankie you're thinking of Addicted. She was the only other Australian girl on here. I think she called herself Spankiepuss back then.

Edit: we must have posted at the same time Guana as your post wasn't there when I posted.

And yeah I got the same thing from Mad with the graphics for GSTS......always make them smaller. Haha
I still have hundreds of old pos and gsts graphics around

Also miss Regi and freeway as well as Ebb, Anna, Mad and dog.

I remember Freeway and myself were the last two members to be made pirates before the big big pos crash.

And while we're at it....remember this.

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

what happened to L3p4rd? used to talk to him a ton. played xbox live with him. my dkm collection still says, 'The SLF Collection'. the hunt for the band, 'dropick' and countless arguments with dickhead and MaxTennessee.  these brought back some memories.

go with the first one btw.

we likes it wicked, we keeps it wicked.

NOTE: if you are trying to grab one of my uploads and it isn't seeding to you its because your IP has been blocked by peerblock.

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

L3p4rd if i remember right had some irl shit going on with depression he sort of fizzled away coming and going then just stopped coming all together, i think max tennese or dickhead was what my first post was about probably arguing the toss with em, i always remember first putting my neck out there and my first 10 or so posts being ignored by the cool kids haha..you got to remember ol howling isnt internet friendly at the best a times i was certain i was going to break something and not one of you bloody foriegn lot had a clue what i was saying for a good few years.
And addicted am guessing we would all love to get things going but you gotta remember there is like 10 or 15 of us at a push now that post regular in forums which for competitions or some such is an uphill battle. We have also come to a stagnation of sorts where those who's opinions were strongly different from the "norm"(making for some heated debates) if you like have fucked off as numbers got smaller as they are much less likely to find an ally in a smaller group.
But i have the germ of an idea that could be good or a right big fecking argument if were lucky.
How do you folks like the sound of some cross border competitons.
The only site i know of still going that a lot of us have some ties too would be PT could be shits n giggles if there game for a POS vs PT series of events and good for forum traffic in both directions?

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

Oh and i miss ebby do you think it's the punk life that leads us to various mental issues or various mental issues that lead us to the punk life, i wonder if anyones done a study on us as a whole because a  shed load of us are pretty well fucked up.

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

Since I use to be more of a "metal" kid...I don't know. Maybe it's all kinds of alternative music and such.

Studies have been done, apparently, and they're mostly old and dismissed. One of the few times I've paid attention in class.

"Hey evil, why don't you eat my butt?"

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

Yeah but all the studies i've seen as such were overblown looking for does this music make a serial killer. Same shit they did with rock n roll more or less. Would be intresting to see a less "shock horror" study.

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

What would the series of events be like howling?

"Flowers are cunts basically." - Guana

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

I dunno man like i say it's just something that popped in my head just now. Don't even know if PT would be up for it there is a few over there who are very clear on what is and isnt punk don't you know.

My first thought was a series of quizzes different teams of say 3 people have to obviously agree a time to both be live on sites and same timezones would help, so say england canada and usa from pos and same from PT go head to head in a series of qualifiers untill we have a winner...

Uhm
Could do photo comps too
One user has to pick a series of things that have to be snapped by members of each teams and whoever gets the most the quickest wins.

Like i say it's all just popping in my head at the mo am sure lots more could do but could be good i reckon

Re: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN AN OLD PHOTOBUCKET ALBUM!!!

i remeber these vaguely, i sure remember all the old usernames. i think the pirate banners was a thing right when i joined, and then the site crashed, was alwys good times back then. What happened to MAD, is he still around?

Maybe off topic: the nature v. nurture saga regarding serial killers is actually pretty interesting from what I've read and kept up with. Personally, I subscribe to both but more so nature since I'm a brain/neuroscience junkie.
