One vote cast for banner #1!
I remember exactly when Loaded (one of the original members of POS) presented one of these banners to me. Meanwhile, everyone else was snickering about the name. I didn't get it as a young teenage boy, but whatever, you know, the difference between "peg leg paddy & peg legged paddy" (I used to post a lot on POS, I'm sure I annoyed the fuck out of everybody haha). Loaded made sure to make me feel included in the going on's around POS at the time though.
I don't even know if some of these people are alive or what, but Loaded, MAD, bottlecap, Anaticula, aKa, (some gal from australia who was friends with MAD, I forget her username lol), Ick (if I forget anyone, I apologize lol), you guys literally made me feel welcomed at a time in my life where I didn't fit in nor belonged anywhere else. But here I did.
That recent thread Howling posted has me thinking about all this shit.
My introduction to the punk scene was at some local punk show at an indoor skatepark at the impressionable age of 12, but POS is the reason I stayed and continued to develop real world relationships with people all around my area and outside of it.
Loaded ended up being a douche, but he was cool up until then. The Australian gal was Ebbtide. Catdog, of course. Bottlecap was/is a legend at PunkTorrents, I kept trying to get him over here as well. As the years have gone by, I dont know if he is active anywhere anymore.
Remember this? We all used a random name generator with a pirate theme for this. It was just before or just after the dead theme. Man, we used to do so much more shit... must be because it was before all the portable media, iphones and such...
Nah, not Ebbtide, but I totally loved that gal!
It was someone else... hmmm.
Bottlecap sent me a package of old t-shirts and cd's and patches.
MAD gave me a video editor and software.
Anaticula sent me the entire dragon ball manga series.
You guys were what I considered friends back then.
I miss the old doing shit all the time.
Comps, themes, banners, promotion of the site, etc...
Hell, let's start doing shit again.
I'll help. Haha.
I'm with you man. But honestly, we have been having this discussion - amongst admins and friends of the music scene since the 90's when Napster started all this as far as mainstream - the last few years. We were all noticing a decline in traffic; it wasnt one site canabilizing another, it was just the same traffic tapering off. We figured that over time, people grew out of posting on forums all the time for lolz and message board cred, people stopped uploading once youtube came out, (file sharing has been going on as long as the internet, it used to take a week to get one song, and that's not a walking uphill in the snow both ways story, that's really how it was)
Basically, the instant access to all things music, streaming, spotify, iheartradio, youtube, etc, its all taking away from a site like this. Punknews.org, and its ilk, all of it. They each take a post away, a view away, a torrent away. I mean, why download "illegal" music if you can stream legal music? Why go to a niche punk site like POS or PT or Kray for that matter, for discussion if you can "discuss" with thousands of other "punks" on punknews or its ilk?
The costs to make this site an app friendly site, even disregarding the torrents? Without writing it ourselves, our donations cant cover that. But its fucking golden. I bet Fat Mike rips me off reading this and makes a fucking punk music app. nah, he's busy making Fat Wreck mobile friendly.
Im not even that old, but "mobile friendly" makes me think of old school motel prostitutes. Mobile friendly, mate.
To answer the whys, the "why come here?"
I think reading through our posts shows enough. You come here for the group, for our common cause. Otherwise, you can youtube punk rock and fuck off for 10 days straight.
Maybe I will get 20,000 stickers or so made up and send them SASE to any member who wants them to stick up all over their hometown, thats guerilla marketing at its best.
Anyone under 30 even remember SASE?
