My thoughts on this interview:
-That "other" Flatliners is from San Antonio
-Not in a homophobic way, but the interviewer sounds incredibly gay
-Glad to hear there will be a good variety of songs on the DVD _________________

Indeed there are a few "joke" songs, and sadly, they get known for those.
But as a whole their songs are working class anthems about brotherhood, remembering your roots, and getting back up when life kicks you down.
If I had only heard "Spicy McHaggis Jig", "Shipping up to Boston", and "Kiss Me I'm Shitfaced", I might lean towards the "shite" button, believe it or not (although I still listen to the first one).
If you are interested, there is a discography on here, since its free and all I'd suggest downloading it so you can see what the fuss is about. 98% of their songs are meaningful anthems, the rest are gimmicky songs that unfortunately they get known for.
EDIT: It'd be like basing your opinions on The Clash from the Cut the Crap album, or The Ramones with "Blitzkrieg Bop"...I could go on.
As a die hard, I never agree with people who diss DKM, but seeing where you got your impression, I can actually understand. It's really sad, because the douchebags and dude-bros at their shows see them as nothing more than a gimmick, which makes other people who haven't really dug in thinking the same thing. And its the real, pre-Blackout fans like me and SLF that know the bands roots. I've met people who just plain don't like the sound, after hearing the best of the best. I may not like it, but fair enough, cause they've listened to the good stuff. I just tire of people labeling them as a "joke" band for a few half-assed songs that even THEY tire of playing _________________

| Guana wrote: | I can see your point with the "Cut the Crap" reference, but the Spicy McHaggis vid was on the Give em the Boot series along with a few of their other tracks, I was interested enough to go out and buy "Do or Die" and the "Mob Mentality" split (I've always rated The Business anyway) but while I didn't find them unpleasant to listen to they never really grabbed me. Back in the day I'd have persevered and played them 'til I either loved them or hated them, but nowadays with such a large collection on my Cd rack and HD I don't do that as much, and unfortunately, first impressions do impact everybodys opinions on everything massively, just ask my father in-law.
I will give them another go (listening to mob mentality even as I stab away with my bestest typing finger) but I'm a bit of a stubborn cunt in my old age, seeing them live would probably help but I can't see them playing my local venues for 6 quid on the door. |
That's cool, songs I may suggest are "Heroes of Our Past", "Never Alone", "Last Letter Home", actually most of their material other than the jokey songs. A good way is to just put their tracks on a play list and set it on random I suppose.
On another note, I will have to say that the Mob Mentality split is probably the worst thing either band has put their name too (particularly The Business, Micky just sounds like he doesn't care on that one), although the version of "Boys on the Docks" and the title track are pretty swell. _________________
